Up to ten percent of respondents in the United Kingdom report having experienced what Cambridge Ph.D., Rupert Sheldrake, characterizes as "mystical experiences," though few are loathe to admit it. One respondent remarked that just as 'sex' was taboo in the Victorian Age, nowadays 'mysticism' is taboo as there is now an implicit fear that if one reports having undergone a mystical experience one might be thought of as "mad." Re: [satsang] Judging is nothing other than naming,...

The mind... the mad woman in the attic as it was called by the mystic Teresa de Jesus, that´s not the problem by itself. The problem (a way to speak, there´s no really what we call problems) begins when you become identified with the sad or happy script of what you call your life That script is made by the mad woman in the attic (the mind). If you use your mind for practical things, that´s wonderful... Good, good... This tool (the mind) is made for that. Just for that... The real issue is about stopping the dreadful addiction to thinking and thinking and projecting towards the past or the future far away from practical purposes. The real issue is about being or not identified with the script in the mind... Because, my dear, we are really neither the thoughts nor the emotions manifested in our bodies. What we really are is beyond those things appearing and disappearing, coming and going... Of course words are only pointers, words only swim on the surface of the truth. Nobody can describe it but only pointing towards it. This truth, what you really are, should be tasted by yourself. Nobody can walk with your shoes. How can you get it? When will you get it? Who knows my dear... However it never happens fighting against (opposite to) the mind, the worlds, your afflictions... As the sages use to say, just look, listen, be still, be present... There´s nothing really to do, or yes? All you really need is here and now within you.

Judging is nothing other than naming, categorizing...every time we give "Oneness" a name, we judge. This is that which makes the plethora of experience possible.
Why stop the mind? The mind is the miracle of existence.

"Live as if you were living already for the second time, and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as you are about to act now!" It seems to me that there is nothing that would stimulate a man's sense of responsibleness more than this maxim, which invites him to imagine first that the present is passed, and that the past may yet be changed and amended. Such a precept confronts him with life's finiteness as well as the finality of what he makes out of both his life and himself. [Viktor E. Frankl, "Man's Search for Meaning," p.131] For the full article on this remarkable Holocaust survivor and eminent psychological theorist go to my, "Spiritual . . . But Not Religious" blog, below.
